Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modified type of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. The therapy can be helpful for people with borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many other types of mental illness.
There are four skills taught in DBT: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotional Regulation.
